Matthew Stenerson was the recipient of the 2018-19 FilmNorth Screenwriting Residency for Faduma & Mike, funded by the Knight Foundation’s Knight Arts Challenge with matching funds by FilmNorth.

He was a winner in the McKnight Screenwriting Fellowship for his script, Death to Prom and was in the Page Screenwriting Awards Top 25 Comedy Scripts for Chaos at the Quinceañera, with co-writer Fabian Garcia Alvarado.

Similarly, he has co-written and co-directed two live musicals inspired by the music of Belle & Sebastian and The Magnetic Fields.

He has worked and volunteered for various film and arts organizations, including: the Austin Film Society, the South by Southwest Film Festival, Stanford University, and Walker Art Center.
